5 Things I Discovered This Week #11

Reading Time: 2 min

Every week, I write down five things I have been thinking about. Not necessarily things I have figured out, but things I am beginning to see differently.

1. Leadership

Slowing down is a leadership skill.

We are often rewarded for being quick. Quick to respond. Quick to decide. Quick to solve.

But speed can sometimes make us solve the wrong problem. Slowing down creates space to notice what we might otherwise miss.

Perhaps leadership is not always about knowing when to move faster.

Perhaps it is also knowing when not to.

2. Burnout

Our identity can become surprisingly attached to what we do.

Our work can become part of who we believe we are. So can being successful, being needed, being strong, being responsible, or being the person who can always cope.

And when that identity is threatened, the experience can be much bigger than losing a job, missing a target or feeling exhausted.

Perhaps one of the harder questions in burnout is not only, “What is exhausting me?”

Perhaps it is, “What have I attached my identity to?”

3. Parenting

Children need a safe environment to thrive.

Marriage and family life can offer children a sense of emotional safety where they can grow, explore, make mistakes and become themselves.

Perhaps the question is not only whether a family stays together, but what kind of environment that family creates for the child.

4. Learning

Burnout coaching may only be one part of a much bigger picture.

What appears to be burnout can sometimes have deeper roots and may require a different kind of expertise.

Good burnout support is also knowing when to step back and let a specialist take over.

5. A Question I’m Sitting With

AI is making it easier than ever to create.

If everyone can become a creator, what makes someone worth following?

And if AI can increasingly understand and influence our preferences, how much of our choice is actually our own? Perhaps the future challenge isn’t creating more content.

Perhaps it is creating something unmistakably human.

When everyone can create with AI, what will make people choose to listen to you?

Until next week,

OutOfTheBurn — Ambition with Ease

Hi, I’m Megha, founder of OutOfTheBurn. I’m interested in a question that sits beneath burnout: why do capable, ambitious people keep pushing even when the way they are working is no longer sustainable? My work explores the patterns behind that question - our relationship with ambition, responsibility, boundaries, pressure, and identity - drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), and behavioural design. OutOfTheBurn is about finding a way to pursue meaningful ambition without making wellbeing the price of achievement. Ambition with Ease. Work Well. Burn Bright. Not Out.
